Hungary has much to offer in terms of culture. Wine festivals, folk dance events, operettas, and gypsy music are characteristic of Hungary. Nature lovers will be thrilled with Hungary, as its landscapes remain wild and unspoiled. Rare species of plants and animals thrive in its various national parks. Hungary is home to Europe’s largest freshwater lake: Lake Balaton. It is surrounded by historic castles and spa towns. In the northern part of Lake Balaton, you’ll find geysers, crater lakes, caves, and volcanic hills. The eastern region features a vast plain with an expansive grassland landscape (the Puszta).
Hungary is renowned for its goulash soup, a hearty dish made with beef, onions, paprika, and potatoes. This dish originated from the shepherds who once lived on the Puszta with their livestock. Hungarian menus typically feature a lot of meat, reflected in the wide variety of stews and Hungarian sausages. At Lake Balaton, dishes featuring freshwater fish such as pike perch and trout, often grilled, are more common.
