Cres
The serene and pristine island of Cres lies between the eastern coast of Istria and the islands of Krk and Lošinj. Cres is the most diverse yet underrated island in Croatia. A regular ferry service connects Brestova on the eastern coast of Istria to the island in just 30 minutes. It is also possible to take a ferry from Krk, which is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Stretching narrow and long through the Kvarner Bay towards the south, Cres boasts dense forests in the north, olive groves and vineyards in the centre, and Mediterranean woods and expansive meadows in the south.
Discover numerous attractions, including the town of Valun, the quaint village of Lubenice, indigenous flora, and the freshwater lake Vrana Jezero. It is a paradise for hikers. The island’s mountains are not particularly high, making most walks manageable. Divers, surfers, and sailors will love it here, thanks to the crystal-clear waters. And uniquely, dolphins can be spotted off the coast.
A 20-minute walk from Camping Kovačine brings you to the center of the namesake town of Cres, where the Venetian-style old town shines. Enjoy wandering the streets and visiting monuments like St. Mary’s Church and the city gate. From the many terraces, admire the views of fishing boats as they arrive, depart, or rest in the harbour.
